The Hootenanny for a Healthy Gulf benefit show last week was a dream. I was thrilled to play music with old friends — making new friends was a bonus. I sang lead on “Crimson & Clover” and “Heart of Gold,” played drums behind Mike McCready on “Sing Me Back Home” and contributed Hammond organ to Duff McKagan’s rendition of “Knockin on Heaven’s Door.”
The night was loose in the best possible way. This verse from Tao Te Ching says it better than I can:
“True perfection seems imperfect,
yet it is perfectly itself.
True fullness seems empty,
yet it is fully present.
True straightness seems crooked.
True wisdom seems foolish.
True art seems artless.
The Master allows things to happen.
She shapes events as they come.
She steps out of the way
and lets the Tao speak for itself.”
